Low maintenance does not mean all gravel and artificial grass. It means the right plants in the right places.

Many people want a garden that looks good without hours of work every weekend. Paving everything over is one answer, but it often creates new problems: heat, drainage issues, and a space that feels lifeless.
A well-planned garden with the right plants can be low maintenance and still lush.

Choose plants that suit the site
Plants that love your conditions need far less watering, feeding, and fussing. Drought-tolerant plants in a sunny, dry spot and shade lovers in a dark corner will thrive with little help.
❦
Favour shrubs and perennials
Annual bedding needs replanting every year. Shrubs, perennials, and ornamental grasses come back on their own and mostly need just an annual tidy-up.
❦
Cover the soil
Bare soil grows weeds. Dense planting and a thick layer of mulch suppress weeds, hold moisture, and feed the soil. Ground-cover plants fill gaps naturally.
❦
Rethink the lawn
Lawns need regular mowing, edging, and feeding. Reduce the lawn to the area you actually use, give it a mowing edge, or replace parts with planting or a meadow area mown once or twice a year.
❦
Automate watering
Drip irrigation or soaker hoses on a timer deliver water directly to the roots with minimal waste. Combined with mulch, they can cut watering time to almost nothing.
This is general landscaping and garden information, not professional advice. Costs, regulations, and plant suitability vary by location. Call before you dig to locate buried utilities, and consult a licensed landscaper or engineer for retaining walls, drainage, and structural work.
